Finally... The Christmas Post!

Heh. Bet Jie Jie (My elder sister.. Henceforth referred to as Jie Jie) must be thinkin "ya la! my last day where i can freely surf net then come and post!" well.. better late than never!

I'm still waiting for sherlin to post up our christmas party pics so this post is gonna be abt my family's christmas celebration.

Righto! 2007's christmas was special in a way that both jie jie and i had invited friends over for a christmas party. Hence, we put in more thought and effort into the Christmas decorations. The theme was gold and red because Jie jie bought back some lovely gold ornaments while i insisted that we kept the red ribbons on the tree.

I promised Ting that i would post up pics of my house's christmas decorations. So, i'll let the pictures do the talking!

The Christmas Wreath. We started holding prayer sessions in our house. In the 4 weeks leading up to Christmas, we were supposed to light up the candles in succession.
The Wreath outside my door. The Leongs helped to decorate it. (psst: The Leongs are this funky doodles family which comprises of my mom's sister/my aunt, her husband and their daughters: Christine, Pauline, Angeline and Celine)
I'm not sure if you can tell from this picture but the centrepiece is a pair of silver bells.

The Leongs gave us this lovely Christmas Hamper.. I love love love the suitcase it came in! It's like an old school picnic hamper. Am thinking whether i can use the suitcase to bring food to the zoo!
Christmas Eve
We celebrate every Christmas with my mother's side. The tradition is that we attend the Christmas Eve mass as one family (Altogether, we take up at least 4 long church benches!) and then we do the present opening at someone's house. The adults often take turns hosting Christmas and this year, it was at Uncle John and Aunt Jessie new crib.
Here's their Christmas tree looking like its drowning in a sea of presents. Lol. It's every kid's Christmas dream!
Waiting for Midnight


Christine made toffee apples, peppermint chocolates (we made the mistake of entrusting them to Malcolm to hold during the car ride.... And Malcolm manage to polish off at least a third of them before we realised the folly of the decision) and alcoholic fruitcake! wooot!
Aunt doc brought her Tiramisu, Dan brought his Hakka kueh for us to try... There was Aunt Pasita's famous curry with Mummy's fried bee hoon, Chicken wings, Satay... A typical Singaporean Meal with Christmas specials thrown in! Yum!

And Daddy turned out to be the best one at it.

Once the clock struck midnight, we started singing (lustily i might add) Christmas songs at the demand of the adults (hey! If they are gonna give us presents, we'll jolly well sing for them to hear!).. No photos of that cause i was *ahem* pouring my heart and soul into those songs.
Angel's Present
It was the time Angeline has been waiting anxiously for. For weeks before Christmas, everyone had seen her present and exclaimed to her how nice it was, working her up into a frenzy (You must understand... Angeline is very.... excitable and emotional.) She had been trying her damnest to guess her present with each guessing session ending with a "I dunnooeeee! tellll meeeee! No wait! dun tell me! No! tell meeee!!!!!!"
Days before Christmas, i found a Hello Kitty box to wrap her present in. And Angeline is not the type who would like Hello Kitty at all. Seriously. It's like Alvinna liking to wear mini skirts. Like Ting liking seng tat (welll im sorrrry.. i cudnt tink of anything else! lol). It's like Huili not liking the colour pink.
So during a conversation with Angeline, i managed to slip in a few doubts about her anticipated present. With a mere "you are so gonna love your present! You are the one who likes Hello Kitty right??!", i got this disbelieving 5 secs of silence plus a hollered "WHAT???!". I could sense the icy daggers coming my way from the other end of the phone la! Hahahah! and the rest of the cousins got into the prank with me.. Poor Angel's nerves were wrecked from just worrying/ getting excited over her present!
Hence, she was the first one to open her present... We present to you .. the result!
TADA! it was a specially designed Cobra starship shirt! But boy oh boy... the look on her face when she encoutered the Hello Kitty was Priceless i tell you!
She was so happy to received that shirt that she started crying from all the laughin she was doing! Since we had made her Christmas, we made her distribute the presents! Soon, Audrey and Dan started helping her distribute them too.
Distribution of Presents


Earlier that day, i had walked in on my dad trying to wrap a present in secret. Sigh. My daddy really CMI when it comes to wrapping presents. While my mom watches with a hawk eye whether we have managed to save paper (by cutting the right size of wrapping paper), my dad just rolled it up and squashed down the ends by using lots of scotch tape!

Present Opening


Thankfully, Jie Jie liked our present! I stayed up till 6 am to do it! It was a last min inspiration when she was away at chalet hence the tight deadline. What we did was think up of all the things we do to irritate her and then make coupons for her redeem every time she wanted us to stop doing it!
Examples of the coupons were:
"I've got to work tml" coupon for sisters to stop disurbing her when she wants to sleep at 11.00 pm
"Can't you just answer it?" coupon for us to answer the phone when it is so obviously for Karen. This is because every time her boyfriend calls, we'll see the caller id and bring it to her instead of answering it, making her burst out into a frustrated "Can't you just answer it??"
"Bed Reserved" Coupon for preventing us from taking over her bed when she is out of the house. Because Jie Jie's bed is so nice and comfy, we'll always use her bed to read books on, take naps on etc. I tried declaring her bed as "community space" but she hasnt caved in to that demand..... yet.
and my fav one was
"Get out of Jail Free" Coupon for times when she wants me to stop yelling at her for forgetting to do stuff like properly capping the nail polish/ body shop exfoliating spa thingy.
Look at her expression here.. You can just tell that she loves her sisters soooo much eh?? heh!
Of course, after unwrapping every present, we had to thank the giver. It has been drilled into us how much effort each present takes and how it's only logical that the receiver appreciates it. Hence, over the din you could hear "Thank you!"s flying around.
I managed to capture a few "Thank you"s.
The Aftermath
While Angeline, Audrey, Penny and Sarah play Sudoku,

Samuel and Pauline get engrossed with the 6 x 6 rubik's cube. Tsk. What on earth did they feed this younger generation to get them all intellectual?
Meanwhile, Celine shows off her new stamps to my mom.
As for me, i was pretty happy with my haul of presents. My parents were simply lovely. They got me what i hinted for and asked for. heh. I felt really touched that they took the time to listen, the effort to get it .. all just to show how much they appreciated having me (even though, technically, i am a financial burden to them!)
what can i say? I am truly loved. :D
Anyhoos, we got home and for the Tays it wasnt the end of it!
Due to unforeseen circumstances (*coughstupidaltarboycough*), Jie Jie and i decided to give Audrey her major present first. :D Thanks to Jie Jie, we managed to get the red crumpler for Audrey just in time! :D :D :D

With Audrey immensely cheered up, Jie jie proceeded to give us our presents from her and Dan. Now, before Christmas, Audrey was all smug cause she got me my present ("Er Jie.. how do you spell Jeffrey Deaver again?") so i started teasing her that i wanted 4 presents from her (Don't ask me why i said that figure). At the same time, i teased Jie Jie that i wanted 6 presents from her so tt i can have a perfect 10. lol. It was a joke!!
But Jie Jie sweetly went and bought each of us 6 presents! Altogether now.. AWWWWWWWW!

Present #1: Nexcare Acne Patch (cause i always email her to buy back some on the way home from work!)

Present #2: Metal Hairband (cause i wear the plastic ones to death)

Present #3: Jeffrey Deaver "Garden of Beast"
Present #4 Jeffrey Deaver "Twelfth Card" (When she called me to ask me which book i wanted, i asked her to call Audrey cause i knew Audrey was buying a book for me... Audrey give wrong info and Jie Jie ended up buying the same book as her. Tsk!!)
Present #5: Hairspray DVD . Want to watch come find me! I'm spreading the Hairspray love yo! It's currently with Alvinna who would pass it on to Claryce --> Asilah --> Sherlin so it might be a while before it comes back!
Present #6: Listerine mouthwash!!! LOL! Because she noticed that the one i was using was finishing! so sweet la! lol... this present wins hands down as the most amusing present ever!
The presents were wrapped with thought too... It increases in size. heh.
The unwrapping of Jie Jie's presents marked the end of a very lovely Christmas Eve, made awesome by all my family members. I had loads of fun preparing for it, feasting on the food, enjoying the company, cam whoring, capturing moments with my trusty camera, unwrapping presents, observing the look of pleasure on their faces when they open my presents, basking in the warmth of family love....Sigh. i really do love christmas.
Not to mention the fact that on Christmas Day, my neighbour called me out to the fence we share... only to present a cute dude whom i hadnt seen in ages (Long story short, we met in Sunday class and his uncle got married to one of my neighbour's daughters). So i got wished "Merry Christmas" by a cute guy on Christmas Day itself.. heh.

Really, what more can a girl ask for?


(well.. okay.. so maybe a girl can ask for dissertation to disappear.)
