Ahhss Christmas! My fav holiday!
Never mind the crowds which you have to jostle your way around. Never mind the lousy help/ service one always encounters while shopping ("Is this mascara waterproof?" "It's smudge proof") Never mind the sea of dour Singaporean faces scowling at you when the MRT doors open.
Screw all that!
Every year, my family would celebrate Christmas in the same way. We would go to mass with the extended family of my mum's side. After mass, all of us would happily troop off to one of the relatives' hses (varies every year) and then we would tuck into a nice meal. The parents would place their presents for us under the Christmas Tree and pretty soon, the base of the tree would be too small to contain all the presents. Lol. Last year, the relative had a small tree placed on a table.. the tree was drowning in a flood of presents! hahahaha!
Naturally, the children (ahem.. including me) would be circling ard the tree, trying to spot presents with their name on it. Ard 11 plus, we would be begging the adults to let us open one present first.. just one present.. just for this year. Which would lead to a rousing and fun round of carolling (gotta work for those presents!) and then! Presents would be distributed and we would all fidget and wait impatiently for the clock to strike 12! Then the ripping would begin!
We started giving the other cousins presents a few years back and now our cousin pool has been increased by 4. Plus my own family members, the present count comes up to about 18 presents!
Hence, you would understand me feeling all smug and satisfied with myself when i thought that i had finished my Christmas shopping (within 2 days!). From my comfortable position, i was at liberty to sigh and cast looks of pity at harried shoppers. And i would warm the cockles of my heart with the knowledge that every present has been settled.
And then. the first bomb dropped. My cousin couldnt find presents for 3 people during her shopping trip in bangkok. BOOOM! After 2 panicked days, we finally got it settled and i was once again settling into my position of hahaha-i-finished-everything-lalalala! when the 2nd bomb dropped. My elder sis, Karen, and i had agreed to share the present for my younger sis, Audrey. Both of us thought tt the other sister was getting the present. So, none of us got it. BOOOOOMMM! die la die la. Lucky we were goofing around and she asked me whether i got it! Or else we would have discovered it during present opening time! The Horror of that moment... seriously sent chills down my spine!
In better news! My mom got me all excited for Christmas. With my not-so-subtle-hints ("I've been really good this year hor???"), she finally told me that my present is very big!!! wooott! Yes .. the kid is every one of us would agree that Size does matter! hmmm come to think about it, some people still do think size does matter in other aspec ..... wait! i'm supposed to be good.
I digress. So.. Now, im wondering whether i should search the huge pile of presents for any of mine! My parents often hide our presents cause we have gotten so good at shakin them and guessing what is in it (My elder sister is especially gifted in this), so i'm super stoked about tml!!
It can't come soon enough!
